Sundowns Face Al Ahli in FIFA Intercontinental Cup at Loftus Versfeld

PRETORIA, South Africa — Mamelodi Sundowns will host Saudi champions Al Ahli at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, 19 September in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

Kick-off is at 15:00 (SAST). The match will be shown on SuperSport and SABC 1.

The tie is the African-Asian-Pacific Cup. Sundowns enter as 2025/26 CAF Champions League winners. Al Ahli arrive as AFC Champions League holders after beating Auckland FC 1-0 in Jeddah on 26 August, with Saleh Abu Al Shamat scoring.

The winner collects a trophy and medals on the night and advances towards a meeting that can lead to Paris Saint-Germain, the UEFA Champions League winners and Intercontinental Cup holders, in the final in December.

Al Ahli’s squad includes former Premier League striker Ivan Toney. Sundowns can call on Brayan León, among other attackers under coach Miguel Cardoso.

Sundowns drew 1-1 with Chippa United on Saturday on a waterlogged pitch after a late venue change, with Antonio van Wyk equalising in added time. Cardoso said the surface and travel disruption had disrupted preparations for the Al Ahli game.

Tickets have been priced at R80. FIFA prize money for this stage is expected to be at least US$1 million.

Sundowns have an uninterrupted week at home. Al Ahli must travel after winning their opening-stage match in Saudi Arabia. The Brazilians have not met the Saudi club before in a competitive fixture.
