BIRMINGHAM, England — Pakistan have been deducted 11 points in the World Test Championship and fined 50 per cent of their match fees after bowling too slowly in the third Test against England.
The ICC said on Monday that the tourists were 11 overs short of their target at Edgbaston after time allowances. England won the match by eight wickets and swept the series 3-0.
Match referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed the sanction after a charge from on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Allahudien Palekar and fourth umpire Russell Warren.
Under World Test Championship playing conditions, a team loses one point for every over short. Players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over, capped at 50 per cent.
The deduction leaves Pakistan at the bottom of the table with five points from nine Tests, a points percentage of 4.63. Australia lead the cycle after winning eight of 10 matches. Defending champions South Africa are second. The final is scheduled for The Oval in June 2027.
Pakistan’s next Tests are a two-match home series against Sri Lanka in November, followed by New Zealand in March 2027.
The penalty follows a chaotic tour. England’s first Test series win since 2024 left Pakistan with 16 defeats in their last 21 Tests. After losing the second Test at Lord’s by 194 runs, the visitors sent seven players home, sacked head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and assistant Umar Gul, and brought in replacements including debutant Razaullah.
Razaullah scored 81 off 63 balls with nine sixes and took four wickets, but the fightback came too late. Captain Babar Azam said the side must “look hard at our mistakes” after being dismissed for 133 in the first innings of the third Test.
