CASABLANCA, Morocco — Spanish coach Paco Jémez has been appointed the new head coach of Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic, succeeding Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi.
The 56-year-old takes charge of the Green Eagles after the club decided to end Nabi’s brief tenure. Nabi, who returned to Raja in June following his spell at Kaizer Chiefs, left amid reported disagreements with sporting director Rogério Matias, particularly over transfer policy and squad planning.
Jémez brings extensive experience from Spanish football and abroad. He is best known for his time at Rayo Vallecano, where he established a reputation for an attacking, possession-based style that allowed the modest Madrid club to compete effectively against La Liga’s bigger sides. He has also managed Las Palmas, Córdoba, Granada and Ibiza, as well as Cruz Azul in Mexico and Tractor in Iran.
Most recently, Jémez served as a first-team coach at West Ham United under Nuno Espírito Santo during the 2025/26 season. His official presentation is expected in the coming days at the club’s academy as Raja prepare for the new Botola Pro campaign.
The appointment continues a period of significant change at the Casablanca club. Raja have undergone several coaching transitions since their successful 2023/24 double under Josef Zinnbauer. The board, under president Jawad Ziyat, is seeking stability and a clear playing identity as the side aims to challenge for domestic honours and return to continental contention.
Jémez’s preferred style — high pressing, structured possession and vertical attacking play — is expected to align with the club’s ambitions. Supporters will hope the Spaniard can quickly implement his methods and settle a squad that has seen notable summer recruitment.
Raja’s next competitive fixtures will provide the first opportunity for Jémez to put his ideas into practice. The club remains one of Morocco’s most popular and historically successful sides, with a passionate fan base that will demand an immediate response after the turbulence of recent weeks.
The arrival of the experienced Spanish coach marks a new chapter for the Green Eagles as they look to rebuild momentum in the 2026/27 season.
