BENIN CITY, Nigeria — Oluwakemi Adegbuyi has compressed a senior career into a few months. The Edo Queens forward is now being discussed as one of the new names Nigerian women’s football cannot ignore — and as a future option for the Super Falcons.
Adegbuyi joined Edo Queens from FC Robo Queens in August 2026, weeks after being named NWFL Player of the Season for 2025/26. She still wears the look of a prospect. Reports during that Robo campaign listed her date of birth as 17 March 2011, which would make her 15. She had already been in Flamingos (Nigeria U-17) squads earlier in 2026.
What she did in Burkina Faso changed the conversation. In the WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, she scored in Edo Queens’ 7-0 opening win over AS Garde Nationale and again in the 3-1 victory over ASEC Mimosas. When the tournament ended with Edo Queens beating Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 final, Adegbuyi was named Best Player.
That is a rare double: domestic player of the year, then regional MVP on debut with a new club. Edo Queens, already NWFL champions, used her as a forward who could finish late and stretch defences. She took the No.20 shirt and immediately looked at home among more experienced teammates such as Doosur Anastasia and captain Valentina Uroko.
A Super Falcons cap has not yet followed. The senior squad remains built around established names in Europe and the NWFL. Adegbuyi’s case is timing and output. Nigeria’s pathway from Flamingos to Falconets to Falcons has produced attackers before; few have arrived at a CAF qualifier as league MVP and left it as tournament best player in the same summer.
The next test is the CAF Women’s Champions League itself. Perform there and the national-team debate will not be whether she is talented, but when Justine Madugu’s staff — or whoever holds the Falcons list — decide a 15-year-old can share a dressing room with World Cup players.
Adegbuyi is not yet the face of the Super Falcons. She is the clearest domestic revelation of 2026: a school-age forward who has already won the NWFL’s top individual prize and a WAFU-B best-player trophy. Nigerian football has been given notice.
