The 55-year-old was part of the Qatar men’s skeet team that took gold on Wednesday, finishing ahead of Kuwait and India.
It is Al-Attiyah’s third Asian Games gold medal, following previous triumphs in 2002 and 2010, and his sixth medal overall at the Games. He also won bronze in skeet at the 2012 London Olympics.
Al-Attiyah is better known as one of the most successful rally drivers in history. He secured his sixth Dakar Rally title earlier this year alongside Belgian co-driver Fabian Lurquin, driving a Dacia. The victory brought his career tally of stage wins to 50.
He becomes the first athlete to win an Asian Games gold medal in the same year as a Dakar Rally triumph, underlining his remarkable versatility across two very different sports.
