BUDAPEST, Hungary — Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou claimed the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship men’s long jump title with a leap of 8.35 metres.
Bulgaria’s Bozhidar Sarâboyukov finished second with 8.34m in the final round. Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer took bronze with 8.07m.
Tentoglou, the Olympic and world champion, held his nerve after Sarâboyukov produced a last-round jump that came within a centimetre of gold at the Gyula Zsivótzky National Athletics Centre.
The result adds another major title for the Greek jumper at a meeting that has already produced world-leading sprint times and titles for Mondo Duplantis, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Audrey Werro, Klaudia Kazimierska and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
Sarâboyukov forced the issue until the last jump of the competition. Ehammer’s 8.07m was enough for third on a high-quality podium.
The three-day World Athletics Ultimate Championship, offering a $10 million prize pool across 28 events, concludes in Budapest on Sunday.
