POLAND — Nigeria’s Falconets concluded their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a 1-1 draw against South Korea in a pre-tournament friendly on Tuesday.
Mary Mamudu once again found the net for the Nigerian side, scoring in the 29th minute to give the Falconets the lead. The defender had also scored the winner in their previous friendly, a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland last weekend.
South Korea equalised from the penalty spot in the 78th minute, ensuring the match finished level. Neither side could find a decisive goal in the remaining stages of the contest.
The result means Nigeria end their warm-up campaign with one win and one draw. Coach Moses Aduku expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall preparation, noting that there were no injury concerns heading into the World Cup.
“Well, so far so good. We are done with our friendly games, and for me, we are good. No injury worries. I guess we are ready. Therefore, we’re waiting for the 7th against Spain,” Aduku said after the match.
The Falconets have been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia. They open their World Cup campaign against Spain on Monday, 7 September at the Arena Sosnowiec, before facing China on 10 September and New Caledonia on 13 September.
Mamudu has emerged as a key figure in the build-up, scoring in both of Nigeria’s final preparation matches. Her contributions have provided a timely boost as the team prepares to compete on the global stage once again.
Nigeria remain one of the most consistent performers in the history of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, having reached the final on two previous occasions. The Falconets will now shift full focus to their opening fixture against Spain, aiming to make a strong start in Poland.
