Isak Brace Seals First Win for Iraola as Liverpool Beat Ipswich 2-0

IPSWICH, England — Alexander Isak scored twice in the opening nine minutes to give Liverpool a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town and hand new manager Andoni Iraola his first Premier League win.

The Swedish striker struck in the sixth and ninth minutes at Portman Road, with both goals created by Cody Gakpo, as the Reds claimed all three points in their third league outing of the season.

Liverpool made a flying start. Gakpo slipped a precise through ball into Isak’s path, and the forward finished confidently with his right foot past goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen. Three minutes later the pair combined again. Gakpo’s clever pass down the left found Isak, who cut inside and slotted home with his left foot to make it 2-0.

Ipswich improved after the early setback and created several openings, but they were unable to break down a well-organised Liverpool defence. The hosts finished the match with a slightly higher expected goals figure, yet lacked the clinical edge required to reduce the deficit.

Iraola introduced expensive summer signing Bradley Barcola from the bench in the second half for his Liverpool debut. The French forward showed flashes of quality without finding the scoresheet as the Reds managed the game professionally to secure a clean sheet.

The result lifts Liverpool to five points from three matches (one win and two draws). Ipswich remain near the bottom of the table after a difficult start to life back in the Premier League.

Attention now turns to midweek Champions League action, with Liverpool hosting Atlético Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday.
