The Aurum Tennis Academy product reached the semi-finals of the South African event last week, a run that has significantly boosted his junior ranking. Okonkwo is now the second Nigerian inside the African top seven, behind compatriot Oluwaseun Peter Ogunsakin, who occupies fourth place.
The latest progress represents another important step in the youngster’s development. Okonkwo is now targeting a place inside the world’s top 100 junior players.
Earlier this season he claimed the J100 Sousse title in Tunisia in April, underlining his growing consistency on the ITF junior circuit. His continued ranking improvement strengthens Nigeria’s presence among the leading African juniors.
