Ghana 0-4 France: Black Princesses crash out of U-20 Women’s World Cup

Sosnowiec, Poland: Ghana's Black Princesses have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup after suffering a 4-0 defeat to France in their final Group C match on Saturday.

Ghana went into the decisive encounter needing a positive result to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive. However, France produced a ruthless second-half performance to secure a convincing victory and end Ghana's campaign at the group stage.

The first half ended goalless, with Ghana remaining competitive and frustrating the French attack. The Black Princesses also had a goal ruled out for offside as they searched for the breakthrough.

France eventually broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, with Anaïs Bertrand putting the European side ahead.

The goal changed the complexion of the contest, with France gaining greater control as Ghana struggled to respond.

France doubled their advantage in the 69th minute when Justine Rouquet found the net, leaving Ghana with a difficult task in the closing stages.

The French attack continued to cause problems and Ornella Graziani converted a penalty in the 81st minute to make it 3-0.

Rouquet then completed her brace in the 86th minute, putting the finishing touch to France's emphatic 4-0 victory.

Match result

• Ghana: No goals

• France: Anaïs Bertrand 59', Justine Rouquet 69', 86', Ornella Graziani 81' (pen)

The defeat brings Ghana's campaign to an end after three group matches. The Black Princesses opened the tournament with a 3-0 defeat to Ecuador before responding with a 3-1 victory over South Korea.

That victory had given Ghana renewed hope of reaching the knockout stages, but the heavy defeat against France ended those ambitions.

For Ghana, the result continues the Black Princesses' difficult record at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, with the team again unable to progress beyond the group stage.

France, meanwhile, secured a convincing victory when it mattered most, with Rouquet's brace and further goals from Bertrand and Graziani sending them through to the next phase.

Ghana leave the tournament disappointed after showing flashes of promise, particularly in their victory over South Korea, but their final Group C outing proved a step too far against a clinical French side.
