Club Africain Edge Djoliba 1-0 in CAF Champions League First Leg

TUNIS, Tunisia — Club Africain took a narrow first-leg lead in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League preliminary round after beating Mali’s Djoliba AC 1-0 at the Hamadi Agrebi Stadium in Radès on Saturday.

S. Kadida scored the only goal in the 71st minute. The match had been goalless until then. Club Africain, the reigning Tunisian champions, protected the lead through the closing stages and take a one-goal advantage into the second leg in Bamako next weekend.

Djoliba, one of Mali’s traditional continental names, created little after falling behind. An away goal in the return would leave Club Africain needing to score in Bamako. A draw would send the Tunisians through.

The first leg formed part of a busy Saturday across Africa’s premier club competition. Rivers United drew 1-1 away to San Pedro, Young Africans were held 1-1 in Botswana, and Al Hilal won 2-0 at Aigle Noir. Club Africain’s result sits with those sides who did the minimum required at home: a win, a clean sheet and a lead to defend.

The winner of this tie is due to meet either Ghana’s Medeama or five-time champions TP Mazembe in the next round. For Club Africain, Kadida’s finish is a platform rather than a conclusion. For Djoliba, the task is now to overturn a deficit on home soil without conceding the goal that would force them to win by two.

Saturday’s 1-0 will look modest until the second leg is played. In two-legged CAF qualifying, it is often enough.
