Beline Nyarkoh Named Woman of the Match After Brace in WAFU-B Final

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — Ampem Darkoa Ladies forward Beline Nyarkoh was named Woman of the Match in the WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying final, despite her side falling to Edo Queens on penalties.

The Ghanaian No.17 scored twice as the decider at the Stade du 4-Août finished 2-2 after 90 minutes. Edo Queens then won the shoot-out 4-1 to claim Zone B’s only place at the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Nyarkoh struck in the opening minutes and later converted a penalty to complete her brace and put Ampem Darkoa on the brink of qualification. Edo Queens, who had lost 2-1 to the same opponents in the group stage, levelled in stoppage time through Oluebube Umejiaku and held their nerve from the spot.

The Woman of the Match award recognised Nyarkoh’s influence on a final that Ampem Darkoa controlled for long periods. She was the Ghanaian club’s most dangerous attacker throughout the tournament and had already scored in earlier rounds as Ampem Darkoa won all their matches before the shoot-out.

Ampem Darkoa still left Burkina Faso with individual recognition. Goalkeeper Rose Teye Baah was named Best Goalkeeper of the competition. Edo Queens took the team trophy, Best Player (Oluwakemi Adegbuyi) and Top Scorer (Doosur Anastasia).

For Nyarkoh, the final award is a record of a performance that almost delivered Ghana a continental place. Two goals in the biggest match of the qualifier were not enough to prevent Edo Queens returning to the CAF Women’s Champions League, but they were enough to mark her as the outstanding player on the night.
