JOS, Nigeria — The Nigeria Premier Football League is preparing to host a six-team pre-season tournament in Jos as several clubs gear up for the 2026/27 continental campaign.
The competition will bring together Rangers International, Rivers United, Shooting Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors — sides expected to feature in CAF competitions this season. Local clubs Plateau United and Mighty Jets have been added as wildcards.
The tournament is scheduled to run from 18 to 23 August at the New Jos Stadium.
The event is intended to provide competitive game time for teams preparing for both the domestic season and African club competitions. It will allow coaches to assess their squads, integrate new signings and build match sharpness ahead of the new campaign.
Plateau United and Mighty Jets will offer home interest and additional competitive challenges for the visiting continental contenders. The presence of multiple NPFL sides with CAF ambitions is expected to ensure a high standard of football across the six days of action.
Further information on the group format, fixtures and match times is expected to be released by the league as organisational plans are finalised.
