Speaking during an interview at the Maldron Hotel in Glasgow, Elegbeleye disclosed that the official unveiling of the partnership is expected before the league’s Annual General Meeting on 7 August.
“We are finalising the details. I have travelled abroad to conclude discussions and ensure everything is properly put in place. Beyond becoming our title sponsor, this partnership will also strengthen our digital presence as we work to grow the league’s social media platforms through influencers and strategic content creation,” he said.
The deal, reported to be worth approximately N10.2 billion, is set to rank among the most significant commercial partnerships in the history of the NPFL.
Digital and Fan Engagement Push
As part of efforts to reposition the league, Elegbeleye revealed that discussions have been held with leading Nigerian entertainers, who have agreed in principle to support the NPFL’s fan engagement campaign.
The Chairman also announced plans to establish a dedicated social media department comprising experienced sports journalists, digital creators and young media professionals. The unit will focus on consistent content creation and expanding the league’s online audience.
“We are setting up a social media department that will bring together journalists who have remained committed to the league and young, creative media professionals. Our goal is to consistently tell the NPFL story and connect with fans across digital platforms,” Elegbeleye added.
Season Calendar Confirmed
Elegbeleye reaffirmed that the NPFL will continue to operate on an August-to-May calendar, describing the structure as a reflection of the league’s growing professionalism.
The 2026/27 season is scheduled to kick off in late August.
