Ezekiel Nathaniel Storms to Commonwealth Games Gold in Men’s 400m Hurdles

GLASGOW, Scotland — Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel claimed a resounding gold medal in the men’s 400m hurdles at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, clocking a dominant 48.47 seconds.

The 23-year-old powered to victory ahead of England’s Jake Minshull, who took silver in 48.99s, while Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson secured bronze in 49.22s.

Historic Achievement

Nathaniel becomes the first Nigerian man to win the Commonwealth Games 400m hurdles title. The previous Nigerian medal in the event came 16 years ago when Ajoke Odumosu won gold in the women’s race at the 2010 New Delhi Games. Kingsley Agbabokha had earlier won silver in the 440 yards hurdles at the 1966 Games.

The victory marks a significant step forward for Nathaniel, who finished sixth at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and placed fourth at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

“I came here with the mindset to win, which I did. I’m the first to do this, and I’ve set the standard for anyone who is coming next,” Nathaniel said after receiving his gold medal.
