According to CAF regulations, if a country’s national league or national cup has not been played for more than one year, its clubs are ineligible to participate in the Champions League or Confederation Cup.
Congo had requested to register:
- TAC Léopards de Dolisie for the CAF Champions League
- AS Otoho for the CAF Confederation Cup
CAF rejected the applications after confirming that the country’s domestic competitions do not meet the required regulations.
As a direct result, Kaizer Chiefs have been granted a bye and will skip the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. The Amakhosi will now enter the competition directly in the second preliminary round.
