Scottish Rugby chair John McGuigan said in a statement: “The board of Scottish Rugby has today dismissed Alex Williamson from his position as chief executive with immediate effect.
“His dismissal follows the conclusion of an independent investigation into matters that were brought to the board’s attention earlier this year.
“In light of the investigation findings the board of Scottish Rugby concluded that the CEO’s conduct had fallen significantly below the standards we set as an organisation.”
Interim Arrangement
Media reports indicate that David White, Scottish Rugby’s chief financial officer, will step in as interim chief executive while a permanent replacement is sought.
The governing body has not released further details of the investigation findings. Some reports have linked the probe to an undisclosed relationship with an employee, though the official statement does not specify the nature of the matters examined.
Williamson’s tenure included work on coaching contracts and efforts to improve the organisation’s financial position before he was placed on leave earlier this year.
