Shamutete passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at Royal Palms Hospital in Lusaka West.
FAZ President Keith Mweemba paid tribute to the late official, describing him as a man who left a lasting footprint on Zambian football.
“On behalf of my executive committee and the entire football family, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the Shamutete family on the loss of a man who served in various capacities in his life,” Mweemba said.
“His legacy as FAZ Treasurer and also chairman for Zanaco Football Club placed him in the higher echelons of football service. He was also available to FAZ in the background to offer his counsel to the game drawing from his vast experience.”
Shamutete served on the FAZ Executive Committee from 2000 to 2004 under the chairmanship of Evaristo Kasunga. He was also chairman of Zanaco when the club won promotion from Division One to the Super Division in 1989 and secured the BP Challenge Cup in 1987 while still in Division Two.
FAZ extended its condolences to the Zanaco FC family, noting that Shamutete’s contribution to laying the club’s foundations remains part of its history.
