Trabzonspor End Trophy Drought as Paul Onuachu Fires Club to Historic Turkish Cup Glory

Turkish giants Trabzonspor have been crowned champions of the 2026 Turkish Cup after defeating Konyaspor 2-1 in a thrilling final on Friday night, with Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu delivering a match-winning brace to seal the historic triumph.

The final, played at the Corendon Airlines Park in Antalya, saw Trabzonspor clinch their 10th Turkish Cup title and end a frustrating two-year wait for silverware. The victory also secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa League play-off round.

Onuachu opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a composed finish after a well-worked attacking move by the Black Sea Storm. Konyaspor responded early in the second half through Jackson Muleka, who restored parity and briefly threatened to swing momentum in favour of the Konya-based side.

However, the night ultimately belonged to the Super Eagles forward. With tensions rising late in the game, Trabzonspor won a decisive penalty after a handball incident inside the box. Onuachu stepped up confidently and buried the spot-kick in the 79th minute to send Trabzonspor fans into wild celebrations.

The triumph carries extra significance for Trabzonspor after suffering defeat in last season’s Turkish Cup final against Galatasaray. Head coach Fatih Tekke also celebrated his first major trophy with the club in what has been a remarkable turnaround campaign.

For Onuachu, the final capped off an outstanding individual season. The Nigerian forward has enjoyed a sensational campaign in Türkiye, finishing among the league’s top scorers while playing a crucial role throughout Trabzonspor’s cup run.

Trabzonspor’s latest success further strengthens the club’s reputation as one of Türkiye’s most successful football institutions, while supporters will now look ahead with renewed optimism as European football returns to the club next season.
