City secured their place in the semi-finals of the English League Cup thanks to goals from Rayan Cherki and Savinho, maintaining their momentum under manager Pep Guardiola.
Cherki opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a stunning finish from outside the box, curling the ball into the top corner to give the hosts an early lead. Later in the match, Savinho doubled the advantage with a deflected strike shortly after the hour mark, effectively sealing City’s progression to the last four of the competition.
Despite heavy rain and a largely rotated squad, City controlled much of the game, showcasing squad depth and tactical discipline—hallmarks of Guardiola’s side. Young midfielder Charlie Gray also made his senior debut late in the contest, becoming one of several youthful contributors as City continue to balance cup ambitions with fixture congestion.
Brentford, who made several changes to their lineup, showed courage and competitiveness, but ultimately struggled to convert possession into clear chances and exited the competition at the quarter-final stage. Head coach Keith Andrews praised his side’s effort despite the defeat.
Manchester City will now face Newcastle United in the two-legged semi-final tie, with the first leg scheduled at St James’ Park in January.
The win marks another step forward in City’s quest for domestic silverware this season and keeps their aspirations alive across multiple competitions as the busy winter schedule approaches.
