Despite both teams creating chances, neither side could find the breakthrough in a tightly contested opener. Namibia, playing on home soil, showed composure and defensive discipline, while Malawi looked dangerous on the counter but lacked precision in the final third.
One bright spark for Namibia was striker Nancy Lebang, who was named Player of the Match for her energetic display and attacking intent. Lebang, who recently won the COSAFA U17 Golden Boot, continues to show why she is one of the region’s rising stars.
The result sees both teams take a point each heading into their next group stage matches. Namibia will be hoping to capitalize on home advantage as the tournament progresses.
