The Copper Queens kicked off their 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) preparations with their first full training session at Lanoria Club in Mohammédia on Tuesday evening, just 10 days before the tournament gets underway in Morocco.
Basking in the warm glow of the Moroccan evening sun, the Zambian squad trained with intensity, unity, and purpose. The session was marked by high spirits and focus as the players responded enthusiastically to drills set by the technical team, led by head coach Nora Häuptle.
The training involved a mix of tactical and physical exercises, designed to refine team shape, chemistry, and match readiness ahead of their crucial Group A opener against hosts Morocco on 5 July at the brand-new Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Adding to the upbeat mood was the arrival of key foreign-based players, including Grace Chanda and Prisca Chilufya from Orlando Pride. Their presence boosts the squad’s attacking depth and brings the full contingent of overseas professionals into camp.
Zambia has been drawn in Group A, alongside Morocco, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). After the Morocco showdown, the Copper Queens will take on Senegal on 9 July and DR Congo on 12 July, with both matches scheduled to be held at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammédia.
