Carli Makarawu Wins NCAA 200m Title with National Record for Zimbabwe

Carli Makarawu of the University of Kentucky delivered a sensational performance to become the NCAA Men’s 200m Champion, clocking a new personal best and national record time of 19.84s (+0.3 m/s) at the NCAA Championships.

The 22-year-old Zimbabwean sprinter shattered his country’s previous record, leading an impressive 1–2 finish for Zimbabwe, as compatriot Makanakaishe Charamba of Auburn took second in 19.92s. Garrett Kaalund of USC finished third with a strong 19.96s, while recent 100m champion Jordan Anthony of Arkansas placed fourth in 20.01s.

Makarawu’s historic win marks a monumental achievement for Zimbabwean athletics on the global collegiate stage.
