NPFL 2024/25: Nasarawa United Fall to Akwa United in Uyo Thriller

Nasarawa United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Akwa United in their rescheduled Matchday 12 clash of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. The intense encounter took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

The decisive moment came in the 34th minute when Akwa United’s Paul Acquah capitalized on a defensive error to find the back of the net. Despite Akwa United being reduced to ten men in the second half, Nasarawa United failed to convert their chances into an equalizer. Reuben Bala’s double yellow card in the 61st and 68th minutes left Akwa United to defend their lead with a man down.

Key Moments and Tactical Analysis
The Solid Miners showed resilience but were unable to break through Akwa United's defensive wall. Despite dominating possession at times and creating key chances, their finishing lacked precision. The numerical advantage following Bala's dismissal further highlighted Nasarawa's inability to capitalize on critical opportunities.

This loss extends Nasarawa United's struggles this season, leaving them in 19th place with 12 points from 12 games. Meanwhile, Akwa United’s victory elevates them to 16th position, also on 12 points but with a superior goal difference.

Post-Match Reaction
Kabir Dogo (Nasarawa United Technical Director):  "It's a disappointing result for us today. We created some chances and had the numerical advantage at some point, but we couldn't take advantage of those opportunities. It’s a difficult start to the season, but we won’t give up. We will regroup and work on our areas of weakness moving forward."
