Golden Eaglets of Nigeria Still Have Hope for U-17 AFCON and FIFA U-17 World Cup Qualification

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria still have a chance to qualify for the next U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, despite initially failing to secure one of the two tickets allocated to the WAFU B Zone.

Currently, there is significant confusion regarding the number of countries that will qualify for this year’s U-17 AFCON from each zone in Africa. This uncertainty arises as FIFA has expanded the FIFA U-17 World Cup, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has yet to issue an official statement regarding the qualification slots.

Despite their semi-final loss to Côte d'Ivoire on Saturday night, the Nigeria U-17 team remains one of the top four teams in the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.

In the coming days, CAF is expected to confirm whether three or four teams will qualify from the WAFU B U-17 tournament. This announcement will determine if the Golden Eaglets can still secure a spot in the U-17 AFCON and subsequently the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Nigerian football fans and the Golden Eaglets remain hopeful as they await the official confirmation from CAF, which could extend an additional lifeline for their qualification hopes.
