UEFA to launch third European Club Competition

In a European Club Association Conference that was held on Tuesday, the executive committee that governs European club competitions Andrea Agnelli confirmed that there is a need to have the third European club competition, but this is subject to the final approval of the committee.

The third European club competition is expected to run alongside with the UEFA Champions League and Europa Cup. This will also improve the chances of some European Countries whose clubs are not fully represented in the European club competitions due to the grade of the UEFA Champions League and the Europa Cup Competitions.

Subject to approval from the Executive committee, the third club competition is expected to start from 2021/2022 season. Creating the third club competition is not a new idea but an idea that has been on ground before the Tuesday Conference, but seems the committee are hoping for a better way to manage the third club competition with already existing club competitions.

Maybe this could also be an eye opener for CAF to restructure the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup to accommodate more clubs.
