Yanga thrash Kagera Sugar 4-0 to continue title pursuit

Dar es Salaam — Young Africans SC (Yanga) continued their push for the Tanzania NBC Premier League title with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Kagera Sugar at the KMC Complex on Sunday, 1 November 2026.

The defending champions produced an impressive attacking display to secure their second consecutive league victory under interim coach Simo Dladla following the departure of Manqoba Mngqithi.

Namibian striker Peter Shalulile opened the scoring in the 27th minute, finishing from a delivery by Maxi Nzengeli to give the hosts an early advantage.

Yanga doubled their lead six minutes later when Tanzania international defender Mohamed Hussein, popularly known as Zimbwe Junior, found the net following an assist from Stephane Aziz Ki.

The hosts went into the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage and continued to control proceedings after the restart.

Kagera Sugar attempted to reduce the deficit, but Yanga maintained their defensive discipline and prevented the visitors from finding a way back into the contest.

The champions eventually extended their advantage in the closing stages through Ivorian forward Cheikh Ibrahima Toure, who headed home in the 88th minute after connecting with a cross from Hussein.

Toure then completed his brace late in the match, taking advantage of Clement Mzize's excellent work to seal a convincing 4-0 victory for the hosts.

The result marked another positive outing for Dladla, who has now guided Yanga to consecutive league victories since taking interim charge.

Yanga moved to 25 points from 10 matches, remaining second in the standings, two points behind leaders Simba SC, who have played one fewer match.

For Kagera Sugar, the defeat extended their difficult campaign, leaving them with just six points from 11 matches and down in 16th position.

Yanga will now look to maintain their momentum as they continue their pursuit of a sixth consecutive league title.
