Port Harcourt — Defending champions Enugu Rangers battled to a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Rivers United in a top-of-the-table clash in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, 1 November 2026.
The Matchday 11 encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium lived up to expectations, with both sides sharing the points in a fiercely contested meeting between two title contenders.
Rivers United took the lead in the 17th minute through Chijioke Mbaoma, who put the hosts ahead with a well-taken effort.
The Pride of Rivers looked to build on their advantage, but Rangers remained organised and continued to search for an equaliser.
Their persistence paid off in the 53rd minute when Godwin Obaje found the back of the net to restore parity for the visitors and bring the champions back into the contest.
However, Rangers suffered a major setback in the 69th minute when Obaje received his second yellow card and was sent off, leaving the visitors with 10 men for the closing stages.
Rivers United attempted to take advantage of their numerical superiority and push for a late winner, but Rangers defended resolutely to secure a valuable point on the road.
The draw means both clubs missed the opportunity to claim outright victory in the battle for the league summit. Rivers United maintained their position at the top, while Rangers remained among the leading contenders.
Rangers will now turn their attention to their next league assignment as they continue their title defence, while Rivers United will look to return to winning ways.
