GQEBERHA — Chippa United have confirmed they will return to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for their highly anticipated Betway Premiership fixture against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 28 November 2026.
The announcement, made in a press statement dated 3 November, marks the club’s return to the venue following more than six months of renovations.
The fixture is expected to be a significant occasion for supporters in the Eastern Cape, with the stadium set to reopen for one of the most anticipated matches on Chippa United’s schedule.
According to the club, its long-term partnership agreement with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has not yet been renewed. However, Chippa United have continued discussions with the Mandela Bay Development Agency, which has helped facilitate the club’s return to the stadium.
The club also disclosed that a recommendation to extend the partnership for another three years could not be finalised before the outgoing municipal council concluded its term.
Despite the unresolved agreement, Chippa United said they remain committed to the people of Nelson Mandela Bay and will honour the fixture, expressing hope that the incoming council will prioritise and conclude a sustainable long-term arrangement.
Chippa United highlight importance of football to Eastern Cape
The club stressed the importance of professional football to the region, pointing to its contribution to economic activity, tourism, employment and community pride.
Chippa United also called on the incoming municipal council to recognise the social and economic value of professional football and approach the outstanding partnership agreement with urgency.
The club’s position comes amid wider concerns about the future of its relationship with the municipality, following the lapse of its previous sponsorship arrangement.
Club urges residents to participate in municipal elections
Ahead of the local municipal elections scheduled for 4 November, Chippa United encouraged eligible voters to exercise their democratic rights and choose leaders who understand the importance of sport, particularly football, to their communities.
The club concluded by expressing its excitement at welcoming supporters back to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for what it hopes will be a memorable occasion.
The return to Gqeberha will provide Chippa United with an opportunity to reconnect with their home supporters as they prepare to host one of South Africa’s most widely supported clubs.
