Singapore — Max Verstappen delivered a commanding performance to win the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, 11 October, completing a perfect weekend after also winning Saturday’s Sprint and securing pole position for both races.
The Red Bull driver crossed the finish line 7.335 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, while championship leader Kimi Antonelli finished third for Mercedes after 62 laps under the floodlights at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Verstappen ends Singapore victory drought
Verstappen’s victory was particularly significant because Singapore had remained one of the few major prizes missing from his Formula One record.
The four-time world champion had competed at the circuit nine times before Sunday without winning or taking pole position. He finally ended that run with a controlled drive, managing his tyres effectively and maintaining his advantage over Leclerc.
The Dutchman said the car had the pace required on both the soft and medium tyres, expressing his satisfaction at finally winning in Singapore.
The result also gave Verstappen consecutive Grand Prix victories following his triumph in Malaysia the previous weekend, marking a notable improvement in Red Bull’s late-season form.
Leclerc and Antonelli complete the podium
Leclerc finished second for Ferrari, 7.335 seconds behind Verstappen, while Antonelli took third for Mercedes to protect his position at the top of the drivers’ championship.
McLaren’s Lando Norris finished fourth, ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri in fifth. Lewis Hamilton was sixth for Ferrari after a tyre-strategy decision compromised his race.
Liam Lawson secured seventh for Racing Bulls, followed by Nico Hülkenberg in eighth for Audi. George Russell recovered from starting at the back of the grid following engine-related penalties to finish ninth, while Isack Hadjar completed the points positions in tenth for Red Bull.
Sprint victory completes dominant weekend
Verstappen’s success in the main race followed an eventful Sprint on Saturday.
The race was affected by rain, and Mercedes driver George Russell crashed out while leading on the opening lap. Verstappen regained the lead and managed the changing conditions to claim victory.
A late collision between McLaren teammates Norris and Piastri also affected the Sprint order, with Verstappen ultimately finishing ahead of Hamilton and Leclerc.
After securing pole position for the Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver carried that momentum into Sunday’s race to complete a clean sweep of the weekend’s major competitive sessions.
Antonelli maintains championship advantage
Despite Verstappen’s resurgence, Antonelli remains in control of the 2026 drivers’ championship.
The Mercedes teenager’s third-place finish in Singapore keeps him ahead of his teammate Russell, while Verstappen’s back-to-back victories have strengthened Red Bull’s position heading into the remaining rounds.
Verstappen’s Singapore triumph, his first at the circuit and the 73rd Grand Prix victory of his career, adds another milestone to his record. However, Antonelli’s consistent results mean the championship battle remains centred on the Mercedes driver as the season approaches its closing stages.
