Kampala, Uganda — URA FC will welcome defending champions Vipers SC to Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Saturday evening as both clubs look to revive their Uganda Premier League campaigns in a Matchday Nine encounter.
The highly anticipated fixture is scheduled for 8:00 pm East African Time (6:00 pm Nigerian time), with both teams under pressure to secure maximum points after experiencing disappointing results in their previous outings.
URA head into the contest encouraged by their 1-0 victory over UPDF FC, which also marked a winning start for returning head coach Sam Ssimbwa.
Vipers, meanwhile, are seeking an immediate response after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Mbarara City, extending their winless run to two league matches.
Ssimbwa targets another important victory
URA's victory over UPDF provided a much-needed boost after a difficult start to the season.
The Tax Collectors currently occupy 15th position with seven points from seven matches and will be determined to use their home advantage to move away from the lower end of the standings.
Ssimbwa's return to the dugout has brought renewed expectations, but facing the defending champions presents a significant test of his ability to turn the club's fortunes around.
A victory would provide another important step towards restoring confidence within the team.
Vipers seek response under new coach
Vipers SC travel to Nakivubo knowing that another disappointing result could further complicate their title defence.
The Venoms are eighth with 11 points from seven matches, eight points behind league leaders BUL FC, although they have played fewer matches than some of the teams above them.
The club has appointed John 'Ayala' Luyinda following the departure of French coach Denis Lavagne.
Ayala will be eager to make an immediate impression and guide the champions back to winning ways.
Vipers have traditionally enjoyed a strong record against URA and will be confident of securing a positive result despite their recent setback.
Head-to-head favours the defending champions
Recent meetings between the two sides have generally favoured Vipers.
The defending champions recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over URA in January 2026, while their most recent meeting in May ended in a 1-1 draw.
Vipers will therefore be aiming to maintain their historical advantage, but URA will hope their recent victory over UPDF provides the momentum needed to challenge the champions.
