Konya, Turkey — Victor Osimhen was on target as Galatasaray delivered an emphatic 4-0 victory over Konyaspor on Friday night to maintain their position at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig.
The defending champions produced an impressive attacking display at the MEDAŞ Konya Büyükşehir Stadium, scoring twice in each half to secure their eighth league victory of the campaign.
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Yunus Akgün doubled the advantage in the 28th minute.
Aleksey Batrakov extended Galatasaray's lead shortly after the restart, while Rafael Leão completed the rout from the penalty spot in the 55th minute.
Osimhen and Yunus put Galatasaray in control
Galatasaray made an early statement and came close to taking the lead through Leão, whose effort was kept out by Konyaspor goalkeeper Bahadır Güngördü.
The visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 12th minute. Gabriel Sara delivered a free-kick into the penalty area, and Osimhen rose above the defenders to head the ball into the net.
Okan Buruk's men continued to threaten, with Yunus Akgün and Batrakov combining effectively in the attacking third.
Their pressure paid off in the 28th minute when Batrakov laid the ball into Yunus's path. The Turkish international produced a powerful effort from outside the penalty area to make it 2-0.
Konyaspor attempted to respond, but Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır produced an important save to preserve his side's advantage. Jackson Muleka also struck the crossbar as the hosts searched for a way back into the contest.
Galatasaray went into the half-time break with a comfortable two-goal lead.
Batrakov and Leão complete the rout
The visitors resumed with the same attacking intensity and added a third goal in the 49th minute.
Sara supplied the pass for Batrakov, who broke into the penalty area before finishing past the goalkeeper to register his first league goal for Galatasaray.
Galatasaray were awarded a penalty after a VAR review following a challenge on Leão inside the box.
The Brazilian-born Portuguese international stepped forward and converted from the spot in the 55th minute, making it 4-0 and putting the result beyond doubt.
Buruk subsequently made several substitutions, introducing Leroy Sané, İlkay Gündoğan and other players as Galatasaray managed the remainder of the encounter.
Konyaspor could not find a response, and the visitors comfortably saw out the match to claim all three points.
Galatasaray maintain their position at the summit
The victory extended Galatasaray's winning run in the league to four matches and took their points tally to 25 from 10 games.
The Istanbul giants remain top of the Süper Lig table, strengthening their position in the early stages of the title race.
Konyaspor, meanwhile, remain on eight points after suffering another defeat in their campaign.
Galatasaray will now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they are scheduled to host VfB Stuttgart on November 3.
