DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Tanzania’s Twiga Stars produced a dominant performance to defeat Botswana’s Mares 6-0 in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie at the Azam Complex on Tuesday, completing a 7-0 aggregate victory.
The result sends Tanzania into the third round of the CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers, where they will face the winner of the Ethiopia–Rwanda tie.
Botswana entered the match trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Francistown. Tanzania wasted little time asserting control and led 2-0 at half-time through goals from Aisha Mnunka (39’) and Hasnath Ubamba (44’).
The second half brought further misery for the Mares. Ester Maseke made it 3-0 in the 60th minute, before captain Opah Clement added a fourth in the 69th. Mary Siyame (74’) and Enekia Lunyamila (90’) completed the scoring as Tanzania ran out comfortable winners.
Botswana were unable to stem the pressure after falling behind and struggled to create meaningful chances. The heavy defeat leaves the Mares with plenty of tactical lessons to absorb as they look to regroup for future fixtures.
Tanzania, under coach Bakari Shime, displayed clinical finishing and strong defensive organisation across both legs. Their progression marks another positive step in a demanding five-round qualifying campaign that will ultimately produce only two African teams for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
