London, England — Arsenal produced a devastating second-half performance to defeat Lille 3–0 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, scoring three goals in seven minutes to secure their second victory in the UEFA Champions League league phase.
After a frustrating first half, Jurriën Timber, Eberechi Eze and substitute Bukayo Saka found the net between the 64th and 71st minutes to break Lille’s resistance and give Mikel Arteta’s side another important European victory.
The result followed Arsenal’s 2–1 Premier League win over Leeds United on Saturday and maintained their perfect start to the Champions League campaign.
Lille frustrate Arsenal in the first half
Arsenal made several changes to their starting line-up as Arteta managed his squad during a demanding run of fixtures. However, the Gunners initially struggled to turn their possession into clear scoring opportunities.
Lille defended with discipline and looked dangerous when opportunities arose. The French side briefly thought they had taken the lead when Ayase Ueda scored from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Arsenal also threatened through Bruno Guimarães, who missed a close-range opportunity before forcing Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer into action with a powerful effort from distance.
Despite the home side’s attempts to find a breakthrough, Lille held firm until half-time, leaving Arsenal with work to do after the interval.
Timber breaks the deadlock
Arsenal returned with greater attacking urgency after the restart, applying pressure to Lille’s defensive line and moving the ball more quickly in the final third.
The breakthrough arrived in the 64th minute when Noni Madueke supplied Timber inside the penalty area. The Dutch defender showed excellent composure, lifting the ball over Özer to put Arsenal ahead.
The goal changed the atmosphere inside the Emirates and gave the hosts the confidence to attack with greater freedom.
Eze and Saka complete the scoring
Arsenal doubled their advantage three minutes later. Saka, introduced from the bench, made an immediate impact by delivering the pass that allowed Eze to score in the 67th minute. The England international’s effort took a deflection before finding the net.
Four minutes later, Saka completed the scoring with a well-worked finish. The winger combined with fellow substitutes Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz before converting Havertz’s cut-back in the 71st minute.
The three goals in seven minutes turned a tight contest into a comfortable Arsenal victory and demonstrated the influence of Arteta’s substitutions.
Giroud receives warm welcome on Emirates return
One of the evening’s notable moments came when former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud entered the match as a substitute for Lille.
The French forward, who scored 105 goals during his six-year spell with Arsenal, received a warm reception from the home supporters as he returned to the Emirates Stadium.
Giroud was unable to inspire a late response from Lille, who struggled to recover after conceding three times in quick succession.
Arsenal maintain their European momentum
The victory continued Arsenal’s winning start in the Champions League and reinforced the depth available to Arteta as the season gathers pace.
Timber’s opening goal rewarded Arsenal’s persistence, while Eze and Saka ensured the result was settled with two further strikes. The impact of the substitutes was particularly significant after Lille had defended effectively for more than an hour.
For Lille, the defeat was a difficult conclusion to a match in which they had competed well during the first half but could not sustain their defensive resistance after the break.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to their upcoming domestic and European commitments, while Lille must regroup ahead of their next fixtures.
