NISHIO, Japan — Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting captured her second Asian Games gold medal on Friday, defeating China’s Yang Chengyu by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women’s 60kg final.
The 30-year-old Olympic champion controlled the contest at Nishio Gymnasium, using her superior reach and range to dominate proceedings. Lin carried a clear advantage into the final round and held off a late surge from Yang to secure the victory.
The triumph follows her gold medal in the 57kg category at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games three years ago. Lin, who won Olympic gold in Paris last year, had previously indicated she considered retirement after the Games but chose to continue competing.
Lin and Algeria’s Imane Khelif were at the centre of a high-profile eligibility controversy surrounding the Paris Olympics after being disqualified from the 2023 World Championships by the International Boxing Association. The International Olympic Committee permitted both athletes to compete in Paris, and both went on to claim gold medals.
A small but vocal group of Taiwanese supporters cheered Lin throughout the final as she added another major title to her growing list of achievements.
