San Sebastián, Spain — Real Sociedad held on to secure a dramatic 3–2 victory over Deportivo de La Coruña at Anoeta on Sunday, October 11, 2026, after surrendering much of their three-goal advantage in a tense second half.
The hosts looked in control after goals from Jon Martín, Arsen Zakharyan and Gonçalo Guedes put them firmly in command. However, Deportivo responded through Mario Soriano and Yeremay Hernández, setting up a nervy finale.
Jon Martín and Zakharyan put Real Sociedad in control
Real Sociedad made the most of their first-half opportunities, with defender Jon Martín opening the scoring before Zakharyan doubled the home side’s advantage with a powerful finish.
The two goals gave the hosts a comfortable cushion and left Deportivo facing a difficult task after the break.
Guedes extends the lead
Real Sociedad strengthened their position in the second half when Guedes scored to make it 3–0, seemingly putting the result beyond Deportivo’s reach.
The visitors, however, refused to give up and began to find opportunities to trouble the home defence.
Deportivo mount a spirited comeback
Mario Soriano reduced the deficit to give Deportivo renewed hope. The pressure increased when Pablo Marín was sent off after conceding a penalty for a foul on Nsongo Bil.
Yeremay converted the spot-kick to make it 3–2, leaving Real Sociedad with a narrow advantage despite having dominated much of the contest.
Remiro helps Real Sociedad survive
With the hosts under pressure, goalkeeper Álex Remiro produced important saves to preserve the lead. Real Sociedad also had opportunities to restore their two-goal advantage, but Deportivo goalkeeper Leo Román denied a chance from Mikel Oyarzabal.
A late sending-off for Deportivo’s Amatucci helped ease the numerical disadvantage, and Real Sociedad eventually held on for all three points.
What the result means
The victory gives Real Sociedad an important boost in LaLiga after a match that appeared comfortable before turning into a battle for survival. Deportivo’s second-half response showed their determination, but the visitors left San Sebastián without a point.
Real Sociedad will take encouragement from their attacking display, while the late defensive collapse will give the coaching staff areas to address ahead of their next fixture.
