The 27-year-old left-back is currently with Greek champions Olympiacos, where he has featured in both domestic competition and the UEFA Champions League this season. UEFA lists Onyemaechi as an Olympiacos defender and records two Champions League appearances in the 2026/27 campaign.
According to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, Real Betis are tracking the Nigerian as they assess defensive options ahead of the January window. However, the Spanish club have not submitted a concrete offer and there are currently no active negotiations between the two clubs.
Onyemaechi joined Olympiacos from Portuguese club Boavista in January 2025 for a reported €2.5 million. His current contract with the Greek side runs until June 2028.
Olympiacos are reportedly prepared to consider offers in the region of €6 million for the Nigeria international, although reports differ slightly on the exact figure, with Soccernet putting the potential asking price as high as €6.5 million. The reported valuation should not be confused with an offer from Real Betis, which has not been made.
The defender has remained part of Olympiacos' squad despite competition for the left-back position. The club's official website lists him as a defender wearing the number 70 shirt, while UEFA's current squad list also includes him among Olympiacos' defenders.
Onyemaechi has also continued to feature for Nigeria since making his international debut in 2023. His versatility and experience at both club and international level have helped attract interest from clubs outside Greece.
Real Betis' interest is not the first time the Nigerian has been linked with a move to Spain. Transfer reports indicate that Las Palmas and Getafe previously showed interest in Onyemaechi during his time at Boavista, with Las Palmas reportedly making an approach for the player.
For now, however, Onyemaechi remains an Olympiacos player and any potential move to La Liga is still at the monitoring stage.
With the January transfer window still ahead, Real Betis would need to make a formal approach before negotiations over the Nigerian defender can begin.
