PSG rally from behind to beat Strasbourg 3-1 as Dembélé inspires comeback

Strasbourg, France — Paris Saint-Germain produced a determined second-half comeback to defeat Strasbourg 3-1 in Ligue 1 on Saturday, 17 October 2026, recovering from an early deficit to claim an important away victory.

Giovanni Reyna put Strasbourg ahead in the first half, but Illia Zabarnyi equalised before Ousmane Dembélé scored the decisive goal in the closing stages. Désiré Doué added a third in stoppage time to complete PSG’s comeback at the Stade de la Meinau.

Reyna gives Strasbourg an early advantage

Strasbourg started with confidence and took the lead in the 17th minute. Reyna finished a well-worked attacking move after receiving the ball from Gessime Yassine, giving the hosts an early reward for their positive approach.

PSG enjoyed spells of possession but struggled to turn their control into clear chances. Strasbourg remained dangerous on the counter-attack, forcing goalkeeper Matvey Safonov to make important saves to keep the visitors within reach.

Luis Enrique had rotated his squad following PSG’s midweek Champions League victory over Manchester City, and the changes initially made it difficult for the reigning French champions to establish their usual attacking rhythm. PSG went into half-time trailing 1-0.

Dembélé misses penalty as PSG search for an equaliser

PSG increased the pressure after the restart, with Luis Enrique turning to his substitutes to add urgency and creativity. Vitinha and Doué entered in the 54th minute, followed by Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi in the 63rd minute.

The visitors were handed a major opportunity to level the score when a VAR review awarded them a penalty for handball in the Strasbourg area. However, Dembélé sent his effort wide in the 72nd minute, leaving PSG still behind.

Despite the setback, the visitors continued to push forward. Their persistence eventually paid off as the pressure on Strasbourg’s defence intensified.

Zabarnyi restores parity

PSG finally found the equaliser in the 77th minute. Dembélé delivered a cross following a corner, and Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi finished from close range to make it 1-1.

The goal changed the momentum of the match, with PSG sensing an opportunity to complete the turnaround. Strasbourg struggled to regain control as the visitors increased their attacking intensity.

Dembélé and Doué complete the comeback

Dembélé made amends for his missed penalty in the 85th minute. The forward finished from inside the penalty area to put PSG ahead 2-1, capping an influential second-half performance.

PSG added a third in stoppage time. In the 90+3rd minute, Doué finished from close range after a move involving Ferran Torres, securing the victory and putting the result beyond doubt.

The closing stages were complicated by an injury to Nuno Mendes, who left the pitch after PSG had used all their substitutions. The visitors therefore had to finish the match with 10 men, but they held on to secure the three points.

PSG move to the top of Ligue 1

The victory moved PSG to the top of the Ligue 1 standings with 14 points from seven matches, ahead of their closest rivals on goal difference and goals scored at the time of the result.

The comeback highlighted the importance of PSG’s squad depth, with Dembélé and Doué making decisive contributions after coming off the bench. Safonov also played a key role, making crucial saves while Strasbourg threatened to extend their lead.

For Strasbourg, the defeat was a frustrating outcome after a promising first half. Their inability to maintain their advantage allowed the visitors to seize control late in the match.

PSG will take confidence from the comeback as they continue their domestic campaign alongside their European commitments.
