Paris, France — Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade suffered a fractured fibula while representing Nigeria in their 2028 Olympic qualifying campaign against Comoros.
The French club announced the diagnosis in an official medical update, revealing that the Nigerian forward would undergo surgery performed by one of the club’s specialist surgeons before beginning rehabilitation under the supervision of its medical team.
According to Nigerian newspaper PUNCH, Ajibade underwent surgery in France on Friday, 16 October. However, PSG have not officially announced a timeline for her return to competitive football.
Injury suffered during Super Falcons’ victory
Ajibade sustained the injury during Nigeria’s second-leg encounter against Comoros at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.
The Super Falcons captain was involved in a collision with a Comoros player during the first half and required medical attention on the pitch before being stretchered off. Forward Folashade Ijamilusi replaced her in the 23rd minute.
Despite losing their captain to injury, Nigeria produced a dominant performance, recording a 5-0 victory to complete a 7-0 aggregate win and advance to the third round of the African qualifying series for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
PSG pledge support for Nigerian forward
In its medical statement, PSG confirmed the fractured fibula diagnosis and outlined the treatment plan involving surgery and rehabilitation at the club’s medical centre.
The club also expressed its support for Ajibade during the difficult period, wishing her courage and a speedy recovery.
The injury is a setback for both PSG and Nigeria, given the forward’s importance to the teams and her leadership role with the Super Falcons.
PSG have not provided an official recovery duration, meaning her return date will depend on her medical treatment and rehabilitation progress.
Injury interrupts Ajibade’s impressive form
Before joining Nigeria for international duty, Ajibade had been enjoying a productive spell in front of goal for PSG.
She scored in the club’s 3-1 victory over Fleury in the Arkema Première Ligue, taking her tally to four goals across all competitions and marking her second consecutive appearance on the scoresheet.
Her absence will therefore be a concern for PSG as they navigate their domestic and European commitments, while Nigeria will also monitor her recovery ahead of the next stage of the Olympic qualifying campaign.
Super Falcons prepare for Morocco showdown
Nigeria’s emphatic victory over Comoros secured their passage into the third qualifying round, where they are scheduled to face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses.
The upcoming tie presents a tougher challenge for the Super Falcons, and Ajibade’s availability will be an important consideration as the team prepares for the next stage.
For now, the priority remains the captain’s recovery following surgery. Nigerian supporters and the wider football community will hope she makes a full recovery and returns to action when medically cleared.
Everyone at Nigfooty Sports wishes Rasheedat Ajibade a successful recovery and a strong return to the pitch.
