Pickford Admits Careless Driving after Near-Miss in Lamborghini

KNUTSFORD, England — England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention after police said he almost caused a crash in a £200,000 Lamborghini in Cheshire.

The incident was on 14 April in Knutsford. PC Cecil Ricardo of Cheshire Police said he was stationary on Bexton Road when he saw a blue Lamborghini Urus, with personalised plates, ignore give-way lines at the junction with Toft Road. Two vehicles slammed on the brakes to avoid a collision. The Lamborghini then sped down Toft Road.

Ricardo activated lights and sirens. He wrote that he was doing 50mph in a 30mph zone and the Lamborghini was still pulling away. Pickford appeared to notice the police car and pulled over.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty in writing and told Warrington Magistrates’ Court: “I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation.” The case was adjourned and he is due at Chester Magistrates’ Court on 7 December.

Pickford has 336 appearances for Everton and 92 England caps. He started at Sunderland, had loan spells including Burton Albion, Bradford City and Preston North End, and has been England’s goalkeeper at the 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups, and in the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 finals.

The charge is careless driving, not a more serious offence. Sentence will wait until December, when he can put his mitigation in person.
