Northern Ireland controlled much of the contest and created the clearest opportunity of the match in the closing stages, but Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili produced a crucial save to preserve a point.
Mamardashvili denies Price
The decisive moment came in the 84th minute when Northern Ireland were awarded a penalty.
Isaac Price stepped up from 12 yards, but Liverpool goalkeeper Mamardashvili guessed correctly and kept out the midfielder’s effort.
The save ensured Georgia escaped with a point despite Northern Ireland having the better of the contest.
Northern Ireland remain top
The draw leaves Northern Ireland top of League B Group 2 with eight points from four matches.
O’Neill’s side had entered the game on the back of an impressive 3-0 victory over Ukraine and had also beaten Georgia 1-0 in their opening Nations League fixture.
The result also maintained Northern Ireland’s unbeaten record in the group, although the dropped points will leave O’Neill frustrated after the late penalty opportunity.
Georgia, meanwhile, showed defensive resilience to claim a valuable point away from home.
Group B2 picture
Northern Ireland remain in a strong position as the Nations League league phase moves towards its final two rounds.
Hungary moved to four points after beating Ukraine 2-1 in the other Group B2 match on Monday, while Georgia remain in contention despite their draw in Belfast.
Northern Ireland's remaining fixtures are against Hungary and Ukraine in November.
