NHL roundup: Bruins, Sharks and Penguins claim emphatic victories

Boston, USA — The Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins delivered commanding performances in the NHL on Thursday, 22 October 2026, recording convincing victories as the regular season continued.

Boston blanked the Nashville Predators 6-0, San Jose defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-2 on the road, and Pittsburgh shut out the Florida Panthers 4-0.

Bruins demolish Predators as DiPietro earns first shutout

The Boston Bruins produced a dominant display at TD Garden, beating Nashville 6-0 to extend their run of consecutive games earning points to seven.

Michael DiPietro was central to the victory, stopping all 28 shots he faced to register his first NHL shutout.

Casey Mittelstadt opened the scoring in the first period before Elias Lindholm doubled Boston’s advantage with a power-play goal.

David Pastrnak added a goal in the second period, while JJ Peterka also found the net to give the Bruins a commanding 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Mark Kastelic scored in the third period before Pastrnak completed his brace, sealing the comprehensive victory.

Pastrnak finished with two goals and two assists, while defenceman Charlie McAvoy supplied four assists. Boston’s performance extended its run to six wins and one overtime loss across its previous seven games.

Nashville, meanwhile, struggled to find a response and was unable to beat DiPietro, who delivered a memorable performance between the posts.

Sharks overpower Senators in Ottawa

The San Jose Sharks secured a convincing 6-2 away victory over the Ottawa Senators, producing a strong third-period performance to pull clear.

Collin Graf and Jacob Trouba each recorded a goal and an assist as San Jose found scoring contributions across the team.

The Sharks scored three times in the final period, turning a competitive contest into a comfortable win. Goaltender Yaroslav Askarov also played an important role, making 40 saves to help keep Ottawa at bay.

Tim Stützle and Jordan Spence scored for the Senators, but their efforts were not enough to prevent defeat on home ice.

The result gave San Jose its first regulation-time win of the season, providing a timely boost as the Sharks look to build consistency early in the campaign.

Penguins shut out Panthers

Pittsburgh also enjoyed a convincing night, defeating the Florida Panthers 4-0 at PPG Paints Arena.

Artūrs Šilovs stopped all 26 shots he faced to record the shutout, helping the Penguins end a four-game losing streak.

Nick Robertson scored twice, while Hendrix Lapierre and veteran forward Evgeni Malkin also found the net as Pittsburgh scored in all three periods.

The Panthers struggled to generate enough offence to trouble Šilovs and were unable to recover after falling behind.

Florida was playing on the second night of a back-to-back, having travelled from Ottawa, and the Penguins took full advantage to secure an important result.

The victory offered Pittsburgh a welcome response after a difficult run of results, while Florida was left to regroup following consecutive games on the road.

NHL results: Thursday, 22 October 2026

Three teams make statements

Boston’s attacking depth and DiPietro’s first NHL shutout provided the headline performance, while San Jose’s late scoring surge helped secure a valuable road victory.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, combined balanced scoring with disciplined goaltending to end its losing streak.

With the NHL season still in its early stages, the three emphatic wins offered all three teams reasons for optimism as they look to build momentum in the weeks ahead.
