Medvedev books ATP Finals return after beating Mannarino to reach Vienna semi-finals

Vienna, Austria — Daniil Medvedev secured his place at the 2026 ATP Finals after defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the Erste Bank Open on Friday, 30 October.

The Russian third seed delivered a commanding performance against the French qualifier, winning in straight sets to reach the Vienna semi-finals and confirm his return to the season-ending tournament in Turin.

The victory marks Medvedev's seventh qualification for the ATP Finals, having previously competed in six consecutive editions between 2019 and 2024 before missing last year's tournament.

Medvedev takes control against Mannarino

Medvedev made an excellent start, breaking Mannarino in the Frenchman's opening service game to establish an early advantage.

The former US Open champion continued to dictate play from the baseline, using his consistent groundstrokes and effective returning to put his opponent under pressure.

A second break gave Medvedev a 5-2 lead, and he comfortably served out the opening set 6-2.

The world number five maintained his control in the second set, although Mannarino initially offered greater resistance.

Medvedev eventually broke for a 4-3 advantage before closing out the contest 6-3 on his second match point on Mannarino's serve.

Russian secures seventh ATP Finals appearance

The victory confirmed Medvedev's qualification for the 2026 ATP Finals, which will take place at the Inalpi Arena in Turin from 15 to 22 November.

The 30-year-old joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton among the players already confirmed for the eight-man singles competition. Jannik Sinner has also qualified but is expected to miss the event through injury.

Medvedev enjoyed a strong resurgence in 2026, recording more than 50 victories for the first time since 2023 and collecting four titles during the season.

His successful campaign has included tournament victories in Brisbane, Dubai, Hangzhou and Almaty, alongside a run to the final at Indian Wells.

He also reached the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters and the Beijing ATP 500 tournament.

Alcaraz awaits in Vienna semi-finals

Medvedev's attention now turns to the Vienna semi-finals, where he is scheduled to face Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard booked his place in the last four by defeating American Tommy Paul 6-4, 7-6(2) in his quarter-final encounter.

The meeting presents Medvedev with another significant test as he looks to continue his impressive run and move closer to another Vienna title.

The Russian won the Erste Bank Open in 2022 and will be hoping to add another trophy in Austria before turning his attention to the ATP Finals.
