Munich, Germany — Bayern Munich delivered a statement performance on Saturday, 17 October 2026, thrashing RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena to return to the top of the Bundesliga table.
Luis Díaz was the outstanding performer, scoring a hat-trick and providing an assist as Vincent Kompany’s side overwhelmed their visitors. Aleksandar Pavlović, Michael Olise and Harry Kane also scored in a dominant display that saw Bayern lead 3-0 at half-time.
Andrija Maksimović scored a late consolation for Leipzig, but it did little to diminish Bayern’s impressive response after consecutive draws in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Díaz opens the scoring as Bayern take control
Bayern began aggressively and took the lead in the 12th minute. Joshua Kimmich split the Leipzig defence with a precise pass, allowing Díaz to control the ball and fire into the net.
The Colombian then turned provider in the 26th minute, setting up Pavlović to double the hosts’ advantage with a well-placed finish.
Leipzig struggled to contain Bayern’s movement and attacking combinations. Olise added a third in the 34th minute, curling the ball home from the edge of the penalty area after a move involving Konrad Laimer and Kane.
Bayern went into the interval with a commanding 3-0 lead after a first-half performance that left Leipzig searching for answers.
Bayern strike twice after the restart
Leipzig’s hopes of a comeback suffered another blow just two minutes into the second half. Díaz collected the ball and curled a finish into the far corner in the 47th minute to make it 4-0.
Kane then joined the scoresheet in the 53rd minute, finishing from close range after Nathaniel Brown delivered the ball across the penalty area.
The goal was particularly notable as it came during Kane’s 100th Bundesliga appearance, giving the England captain another milestone to celebrate in Bayern colours.
Díaz completes his hat-trick
Díaz completed his treble in the 69th minute, collecting Olise’s pass before curling another excellent finish beyond Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt.
His three goals and assist made him the central figure in Bayern’s attacking display, while Olise also impressed with a goal and an assist.
Bayern continued to create opportunities as Leipzig struggled to cope with their intensity. The hosts came close to adding further goals, but their six-goal haul was already enough to underline the gulf between the sides on the day.
Leipzig eventually found the net in stoppage time when Maksimović scored in the 90+1st minute, denying Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig a clean sheet.
Bayern return to the Bundesliga summit
The victory moved Bayern to 14 points and the top of the Bundesliga standings, ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference at the end of Saturday’s matches. Freiburg still had an opportunity to move above them with their match against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.
For Kompany, the result was an emphatic response to recent criticism following Bayern’s draws against Augsburg and Viking in the Champions League. His players produced a far more convincing performance, showing their attacking quality and ability to turn possession into goals.
Leipzig, meanwhile, were left to reflect on a difficult evening after arriving in Munich with an impressive home record. Bayern’s relentless pressure and clinical finishing made the difference.
The Bavarians will now turn their attention to a major Champions League test against Arsenal on Wednesday, 21 October.
