PARIS, France — Paris Saint-Germain moved to the top of Ligue 1 after securing a 2–0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais on Monday night, with second-half goals from substitutes Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts extending the champions’ winning run across all competitions to eight matches.
The encounter at the Parc des Princes remained goalless for more than an hour as Lyon defended stubbornly and goalkeeper Dominik Greif frustrated the home side. However, PSG’s substitutions proved decisive, with Mayulu breaking the deadlock in the 72nd minute before Godts sealed the points six minutes from time.
The victory took PSG to 17 points from eight league matches, one point ahead of Rennes. Lyon remained fifth on 14 points after missing the opportunity to move to the top themselves.
PSG Struggle to Break Down Lyon
PSG started on the front foot, controlling possession and attempting to break through Lyon’s defensive organisation.
Ferran Torres threatened in the first half but was denied by Greif, who produced an important save to keep the visitors in the contest.
Lyon also created dangerous opportunities on the counterattack. Matvey Safonov was called into action to deny Julien Duranville in the 31st minute before making another important intervention shortly afterwards.
Despite PSG enjoying the greater share of possession, Lyon’s defensive discipline ensured the teams went into half-time level.
Mayulu Breaks the Deadlock
PSG increased the pressure after the interval, with João Neves going close with an overhead kick before Ferran Torres tested Greif again.
Head coach Luis Enrique then turned to his substitutes, introducing Mayulu and Godts to inject fresh energy into the attack.
The decision paid off in the 72nd minute. Godts supplied Mayulu on the edge of the penalty area, and the young midfielder took a touch before driving a low shot into the left corner to give PSG a deserved 1–0 lead.
The goal relieved the pressure on the hosts and forced Lyon to become more adventurous in search of an equaliser.
Godts Seals the Victory
Lyon attempted to respond, but PSG took advantage of the additional space available as the visitors pushed forward.
In the 84th minute, Godts collected a long pass, cut inside from the left and fired home from the edge of the box to make it 2–0.
It was the Dutch winger’s first goal for PSG since joining from Ajax Amsterdam and a memorable contribution on a night when the substitutes made the difference.
PSG managed the closing stages to secure another important victory and strengthen their position in the Ligue 1 title race.
PSG Move to the Summit
The result marked PSG’s fifth consecutive Ligue 1 victory and their eighth successive win across all competitions.
The Parisian club have now taken the lead in the league standings for the first time this season, moving one point clear of Rennes after eight matches.
Lyon, meanwhile, will regret failing to capitalise on their opportunities, particularly during a first half in which they created some of the most dangerous chances.
PSG will take confidence from another victory achieved despite missing several important players through injury, while Mayulu and Godts have given Enrique further attacking options.
