Liechtenstein hold Azerbaijan to goalless draw in UEFA Nations League

Baku, Azerbaijan — Liechtenstein earned a hard-fought point after holding Azerbaijan to a 0-0 draw in their UEFA Nations League League D Group 2 encounter at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium on Thursday, 1 October 2026.

The visitors produced a disciplined defensive performance to frustrate Azerbaijan, who enjoyed the majority of possession but were unable to find a breakthrough. The result gave Liechtenstein their first point of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign.

Azerbaijan controlled much of the contest and created several opportunities, but Liechtenstein goalkeeper Benjamin Büchel and the visitors' defensive unit kept the hosts at bay.

Despite Azerbaijan's territorial advantage, neither side managed to score, with the match finishing goalless after 90 minutes.

The result followed contrasting opening fixtures for the two nations. Liechtenstein began their Nations League campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Lithuania on 24 September, while Azerbaijan were seeking their first points of the group stage.

Liechtenstein will now turn their attention to their next Nations League fixture against Gibraltar on 5 October, while Azerbaijan will look to build on the draw when they face Liechtenstein again in November.
