Konkola Blades Halt Nkana’s Winning Run as Chirundu and Buffaloes Claim Victories

LUSAKA, Zambia — Konkola Blades brought Nkana FC’s three-match winning streak to a decisive end with a controlled 2-0 victory, while Chirundu United and Green Buffaloes also collected important wins on a busy Sunday in Week 5 of the MTN Super League Transitional Season.

At Konkola Stadium, the hosts produced a disciplined and clinical display to overcome the Kitwe giants. Emmanuel Kunda opened the scoring in the 34th minute, giving Blades a deserved half-time lead. Just three minutes after the restart, Idriss Ilunga Mbombo doubled the advantage with a speculative effort that found the net, effectively ending Nkana’s hopes of a fourth consecutive triumph. The home side defended stoutly thereafter to secure a valuable three points.

In Kabwe, Green Buffaloes claimed a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Kabwe Warriors. Second-half goals from Paul Mbuyi and Golden Mashata put the Nyanta Boys in control. Mbuyi broke the deadlock in the 65th minute with a powerful header, before Mashata extended the lead nine minutes later with an excellent chip over the goalkeeper. Charles Majapa Mumba pulled one back for the hosts with a superb direct free-kick in stoppage time, but it proved too late to deny Buffaloes the points.

Meanwhile, Chirundu United continued their impressive early-season form with a narrow 1-0 away win against Mufulira Wanderers. Andrew Simumba proved the difference, scoring in the 27th minute with a well-taken free-kick. The visitors defended resolutely for the remainder of the match to secure their second consecutive victory and build further momentum in the transitional campaign.

Sunday’s Results

• Konkola Blades 2-0 Nkana FC
• Kabwe Warriors 1-2 Green Buffaloes
• Mufulira Wanderers 0-1 Chirundu United

The results add further intrigue to both streams of the MTN Super League as the transitional season gathers pace. Nkana will look to bounce back quickly after their first setback, while Konkola Blades, Chirundu United and Green Buffaloes will aim to maintain their positive trajectories in the coming fixtures.
