Vigo, Spain — Juventus produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat Celta Vigo 2-1 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, 15 October 2026, with Randal Kolo Muani scoring a stoppage-time winner after Nick Woltemade had cancelled out Hugo Álvarez’s opener.
The victory gave Juventus three valuable points in the second matchday of the Europa League league phase, despite a difficult first half in which the Italian side struggled to find its rhythm.
Celta Vigo take first-half lead
Celta started brightly at the Estadio Abanca-Balaídos and took the lead in the 18th minute through Álvarez, who finished a well-worked attacking move to put the hosts ahead.
Juventus attempted to respond, with Federico Gatti sending an effort over the crossbar after a forward move involving Weston McKennie. Woltemade also came close before half-time, but his effort failed to find the target.
Luciano Spalletti’s side went into the break trailing and needing a stronger attacking performance to turn the contest around.
Woltemade restores parity
Juventus returned from the interval with greater urgency, and Francisco Conceição tested Celta goalkeeper Andrei Radu with efforts early in the second half.
The visitors found their equaliser in the 58th minute. Teun Koopmeiners delivered a dangerous cross into the penalty area, and after Marcos Alonso’s aerial deflection, Woltemade reacted quickly to volley the ball into the bottom-left corner.
The goal brought Juventus level at 1-1 and shifted the pressure back onto the home side.
Celta continued to threaten, but Juventus gradually pushed forward in search of a winner. Pape Matar Sarr forced Radu into a save, while Nico González came close to scoring late on with a curling effort that narrowly missed the post.
Kolo Muani delivers decisive blow
Just when the match appeared to be heading for a draw, Kolo Muani settled the contest in the second minute of stoppage time.
The French forward found space inside the six-yard box to meet Andrea Cambiaso’s cross and head home, completing Juventus’ comeback and securing a 2-1 victory.
The late goal was a significant reward for Juventus’ persistence after falling behind early in the match.
Juventus gain momentum in Europe
The result marked an important away win for Juventus as they continued their European campaign under Spalletti. Their ability to recover from a difficult first half and find a decisive goal late on demonstrated their determination to take all three points.
Celta, meanwhile, were left disappointed after leading for much of the contest. The Spanish side must now regroup after surrendering their advantage in the closing stages.
Juventus will return to domestic action against Lazio on Sunday, 18 October, before hosting Rennes in their next Europa League fixture on 22 October.
