Katsina United Fined for Security Lapses and Pitch Invasion

LAGOS, Nigeria — Katsina United have been sanctioned by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for security breaches during their Matchday fixture against Plateau United.

The club was charged with failing to provide adequate and effective security, which allowed unauthorised persons to gain access to restricted areas. Supporters of Katsina United also encroached onto the field of play, compromising the safety of players and match officials.

In its ruling, the NPFL has imposed the following sanctions:

  • A fine of N1 million for failure to provide adequate and effective security
  • A further fine of N1 million for the encroachment of supporters onto the field of play

Katsina United have been given 48 hours (two working days) from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions.

The incidents occurred during the club’s match against Plateau United on Sunday. The NPFL stated that the failure to maintain proper security arrangements and the subsequent pitch invasion constituted breaches of the league’s framework and rules governing the safety of players and officials.

The fines take immediate effect, with the club expected to comply while any appeal is considered.
