The sanctions were issued after the Lagos club was found to have breached the NPFL27 Framework and Rules during the Matchday 7 fixture.
Inter Lagos charged over security failure
According to the EuroMatch-NPFL, Inter Lagos failed to provide adequate and effective security for the home fixture, allowing unauthorised persons to gain access to restricted areas.
The league body said the breach led to match officials being attacked while they were making their way from the dressing room to their vehicle after the match.
Inter Lagos were fined ₦2 million for the security failure.
The club was also fined a further ₦1 million after the match officials were allegedly held hostage for more than an hour following the game.
Match officials allegedly assaulted
The NPFL further found Inter Lagos responsible for failing to ensure the proper conduct of its officials and supporters.
The league said club officials, together with some supporters, intimidated, harassed and verbally abused the match officials in incidents it said were capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
The sanctions notice also stated that the club's team manager, alongside some supporters, assaulted the match officials.
The first assistant referee was reported to have suffered a facial injury, while personal belongings were lost and his mobile phone was damaged during the incident.
Additional ₦2.25m sanction
Inter Lagos were fined another ₦2 million for the assault on the match officials.
A further ₦250,000 was awarded as compensation to the affected assistant referee for the loss of personal belongings, damage to his mobile phone and treatment for the injury sustained.
This brings the total financial sanctions against the Lagos club to ₦5.25 million.
Three points and three goals deducted
The most significant sporting punishment is the deduction of three points and three goals from Inter Lagos' accrued totals.
The NPFL stated that the deduction was imposed for the assault on, and injury to, the first assistant referee.
Inter Lagos had five points from seven matches in the NPFL table before the disciplinary sanction, following one win, two draws and four defeats.
The points deduction therefore has the potential to leave the Lagos club on two points, subject to the outcome of any appeal.
Inter Lagos given 48 hours to appeal
Inter Lagos have been given 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions.
The disciplinary decision comes as the NPFL continues to enforce its regulations on the conduct of clubs, officials and supporters following a series of disciplinary matters during the early stages of the 2026/27 season.
The league's latest action underlines the seriousness with which the NPFL is treating attacks or misconduct involving match officials.
